Navigating Social Media Trends in Without Burning Out

If social media feels louder, faster, and more demanding than ever, you’re not imagining it.
Every year we’re told there’s a new trend we must follow, a new format we have to use, and a new platform we’re already “behind on”.
I’m Debbie Hatumale-Uy. I’m a marketer by background, a small business owner by reality, and someone who works closely with business owners every week. This post is about how I’m approaching social media in 2025 without chasing every shiny thing.
Social Media Isn’t Slowing Down, but You Can
More Change, More Noise
Between AI, short-form video, platform updates, and algorithm shifts, social media is evolving quickly. But speed doesn’t equal strategy.
One of the biggest mistakes I see is businesses trying to keep up with everything instead of choosing what actually fits.
The Biggest Trend I’m Paying Attention To
Trust Over Tactics
The most important shift I see in 2026 isn’t a feature. It’s a behaviour.
People are tired. They’re more selective. They want brands that feel human, consistent, and grounded.
That means:
Fewer gimmicks
More clarity
More real communication
You Don’t Need to Be Everywhere
Platform Fatigue Is Real
Trying to show up on every platform usually leads to:
Inconsistent posting
Burnout
Shallow content
I always recommend choosing:
One primary platform
One secondary platform
And doing those well.
Depth beats breadth every time.
Trends Should Serve Your Strategy, Not Replace It
The Question I Ask Before Following a Trend
Before jumping on anything new, I ask:
Does this help me communicate better
Does my audience actually use this
Can I show up here consistently
If the answer is no, it’s a distraction.
What I Want You to Take Away
You don’t need to chase every trend
Social media should support your business, not exhaust it
Calm, consistent content wins in the long run
Next Step
Audit your platforms and remove one thing that feels heavy. Simpler often works better.
